Miriam Wallbridge

Miriam is an associate at Gibson & Barnes LLP.

Miriam joined the firm in 2014, after completing a combined labour law/civil litigation articling program with a union-side labour firm in Toronto. Miriam comes to the firm with a keen interest both in labour relations in the construction sector, and in the civil litigation of disputes arising in the construction/labour context.

Miriam earned her LLB and BCL degrees from McGill University, graduating with Great Distinction in 2007.  During law school, Miriam served as research assistant to Professor Ronald Sklar in Law and Psychiatry, and as a volunteer worker in the McGill Legal Information Clinic. Inspired by her legal clinic experience, Miriam spent three years, following her graduation, running a community legal information clinic and access-to-justice program on a First Nations reserve in the Eeyou Istchee, in Northern Quebec.

Prior to law school, Miriam earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with Very High Distinction, ranking first among all political science and international relations students in her graduating class, and winning the Helen and David Eisen Graduation Fellowship and the Suzanne and Edwin Goodman Prize in Political Science. After obtaining her B.A., Miriam embarked upon graduate studies in political theory at the University of Oxford, funded by British Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships. While at Oxford, she secured the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Commission's nomination for funding for a DPhil in politics.

Currently, Miriam is finalizing an LLM thesis that joins her interests in politics and law - examining the impact of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on organized labour's collective autonomy, and on labour law's unique "proprium".

A core classical pianist and Royal Conservatory of Music alumnus, Miriam takes pride in the fact that she successfully re-worked her piano technique while attending law school. She shares her love of lyrical art forms with her husband, a professional violinist, and with their two young sons.
